Know Alberta
About Know Alberta
Know Alberta is a portal for discovery! It provides a common place to search and access digital content from Alberta's leading institutions, and provides an enduring preservation environment for historic records.
The site currently provides access to the digital collections of the Lois Hole Campus Alberta Digital Library, the Glenbow Museum and other memory organizations in Alberta.
The Alberta Library
Knowalberta.ca is maintained by The Alberta Library (TAL) with support from its partners. TAL is a consortium of over 290 member libraries that support barrier-free access to information for all Albertans.
The Alberta Library, in
partnership with the University of Alberta, was named a Sun Microsystems’ Centre
of Excellence and is a founding member of Sun’s Preservation and Archiving
Special Interest Group -- a collaboration of global leaders sharing best practices
for digital archiving.
The Lois Hole Campus Alberta Digital Library
(LHCADL) was established by the Alberta Government, funded by Alberta Advanced Education and Technology, and managed and delivered by TAL. It was created as a legacy to the late, the Honourable Lois Hole, former Lieutenant Governor of the province, to continue her vision of greater learning opportunities for all Albertans.
LHCADL is a shared collection of licensed materials and new, unique digitized content from post-secondary institutions across Alberta. It contains millions of resources including photographs, maps, videos, academic journals, encyclopedias, magazine and newspaper articles, audio recordings and other media.
Through searching the LHCADL-funded collections in Know Alberta, you can access materials from Athabasca University, the University of Alberta, University of Calgary and the University of Lethbridge.
