Description: Annie Long was born in Victoria, British Columbia on April 5th, 1923. Her father, John Der, was born in 1903 in Canada. Her mother, Rose, was born in 1903 in Shanghai, China. Annie's parents had 12 children. Annie grew up in New Brigdon, Alberta, and was raised by her paternal grandmother. In 1939, Annie married Hong Long. Annie discusses her childhood, her married life, and what life was like for Chinese people in small town Alberta. She also discusses attending an address by Stephen Harper in Ottawa in 2006 during which he issued an apology for the Head Tax imposed on Chinese-Canadians. The interview took place in Calgary, Alberta in January of 2007, and was directed and edited by Jasmin Poon.
