  • Title: Cold Journey

Description: A feature drama about a young Canadian Indian's attempt to find a place for himself. It tells of the cultural shock of an educational system that teaches him to be a white man, and of his attempts to discover a way of life more meaningful to his Native culture and ancestry. It is a tragic story of unexpected pitfalls and disillusionment that are as cruel as the bitter wind that greets him on his cold and lonely journey.

Description: In a little village in the end of the 1890's, a young woman offends all the 'right-thinking' villagers by receiving men in her house in the absence of her husband. When he is found dead, all suspicion falls to this free woman. She is judged more for her morality then for the crime she's supposed to have committed. Her culpability is still a subject of debate today.

  • Title: Loyalties

Description: David Sutton (Welsh), a physician, and his wife, Lily (Wooldridge), are the model of middle-class British comfort, security and composure. So what brings them to the remote village of Lac La Biche in northern Alberta? The local residents can't understand it. Aloof and alone, Lily provides no answers, although her alienation lifts somewhat as she becomes friends with Rosanne, a Métis woman (Cardinal), whom the doctor has hired as a housekeeper. A vivacious single mother with profound attachments to her cultural and spiritual ancestry, Rosanne elicits an unusual sense of trust and affection from the customarily reticent Lily. Their friendship transcends the gulfs of culture and economics, and eventually tests the bonds of family loyalties.
